Wireless Honeywell CM Zone system has split the home’s central heating into four distinct heating zones, without pipework changes or any wiring
A North London home with a home office has greatly improved heating system control, superior comfort and much lower gas bills, thanks to Honeywell CM Zone wireless heating control.
Heating installer Gaswise UK Ltd employed Honeywell CM Zone to split the central heating system into four distinct zones, without any pipework changes or wiring. CM Zone uses wireless signals from central controllers to regulate the radiators in each zone. The homeowners can change temperatures in each zone automatically at up to six times a day, so ensuring the right temperatures at the right times, to ensure comfort and maximum fuel efficiency.
“The four heating zones are the kitchen with its extension, the lounge, the main bedrooms and the home office,” explained Peter Greenbank of Gaswise. “Each zone is used at different times. CM Zone ensures they are heated to the desired temperature when needed, but reduces temperatures at other times to save energy.
The home also has spare bedrooms, heated only occasionally when family members sleep over. “The radiators in these rooms are, in effect, on a fifth zone controlled manually by turning up Honeywell thermostatic radiator valves (TRVs) when heat is necessary. A Honeywell CM67RF wireless programmer provides a boiler interlock for this fifth zone. Just as with CM Zone, the CM67RF uses wireless signals down to the boiler, so there was no need for any wiring,” explained Peter Greenbank.
The residents have used CM Zone to match the heating precisely to their needs. For example, the home office is heated only when the husband is working. The wife watches TV daily, but that room is heated only to ensure her comfort from the time the programme starts each day, but turns down automatically at the end of her regular TV session, as the room is no longer used.
The flexibility of CM Zone enabled Gaswise to install the project in two stages. “First, we upgraded the existing installation to a sealed system, installed a Vaillant 837 boiler and new radiators where necessary, and provided two heating zones using CM Zone. The benefits and simplicity of CM Zone were very clear, so we used it to divide the system further into four heating zones regulated by CM Zone, plus the fifth ‘spare bedrooms’ zone used only occasionally and controlled by TMVs.”
