Respected heating engineer, Ernie Harris, retires this week after almost 30 years service with plumbing and heating company Great Yarmouth Heating (GYH). Ernie was guest of honour at a retirement lunch held at the Rambouillet Rooms in Great Yarmouth on Tuesday 5th September, where he was presented with a gold watch in recognition of his long service by the GYH directors.

Ernie joined GYH in May 1977 from Mechanical and Plumbing Services and has worked on virtually every Great Yarmouth street since then. In addition, many of the town’s major businesses will have benefited from Ernie’s expertise during his time at the company. Countless town residents know him as a good, honest, and knowledgeable tradesman - never one afraid of using his initiative to solve any problem. He is finishing his career at Sizewell Power Station before retiring from the industry.

Bob Price, Chairman of GYH commented:  ‘Ernie has been a stalwart of GYH for almost 30 years, during which time his loyalty and expertise have never been in question.  We will all miss him greatly, and wish him and Ann many happy years of well deserved retirement’

Ernie is married to Ann, who has been a great support to both Ernie and GYH throughout his career and they live in the town. They hope to play more bowls and travel abroad more frequently with his new found free time. Ann was also presented with a bouquet of flowers at the luncheon.
