Banishing Backflow – ACO Building Drainage launches Anti-Flood systems

ACO Building Drainage, the newly launched built environment division of drainage specialist ACO Technologies, is introducing a new range of high-performance Anti-Flood systems that are designed to protect vulnerable properties from flooding caused by storm surges in the main sewer system.  Compliant with all UK Building Regulations and British Standards, the easy-to-install and robust systems are ideal for both domestic and commercial applications, protecting basements and lower floors from damaging sewer backflows.
There are three systems in the new range: the ‘Junior M Floor Gully’ and the ‘SERA In-Line Valve System’ are designed for grey water applications (wastewater not containing faecal matter or urine); the ‘ARA In-Line Valve System’ is for use where black water (wastewater containing faecal matter or urine) is present.  All three meet the standards required by BS EN 13564 and all feature at least one automatic closure valve.  There is a further single manual closure valve for emergency use on all three devices.
“The number of properties that are vulnerable to damaging sewer backflows is increasing with the greater use of hard landscaping and the move to develop flood plains for residential use.  And, with changing patterns in rainfall increasing the frequency of storm surges, the potential risk is now becoming even greater,” says Martin Fairley, Division Director at ACO Building Drainage.  “We have developed the new range of Anti-Flood devices to suit the majority of domestic and industrial situations, but applications can vary significantly.  To ensure that engineers and contractors select the correct system, we provide a full design service that offers specialist advice on specific applications as well as complete technical support.”

The Junior M Floor Gully is a BS EN 13564 Type 4 point gully protection device.  Ideal for intermittent flow, grey water applications in basements and utility rooms, the gully is rated for a maximum flow rate of 1.4 litres/sec.  Its cast iron construction provides optimum resilience and durability and the quick removal grating allows for easy maintenance and rapid access to the manual emergency valve.

For continuous flow grey water applications, the SERA In-Line Valve System is designed for ground floor and basement protection.  Manufactured from polypropylene, this BS EN 13564 Type 2 system is lightweight, robust and corrosion resistant.  To reduce fitting time and optimise maintenance, an optional telescopic, polypropylene installation chamber is also available.

The ARA In-Line Valve System is for use in continuous flow black water applications at basement and ground floor level.  A BS EN 13564 Type 3 device, it is equipped with an electronically controlled closure valve that can be fully integrated with other Building Management Systems.  Manufactured from lightweight polypropylene, the ARA can also be supplied with a telescopic installation chamber.
